What is the difference between Crepe de Chine and Charmeuse Silk?

1. What is crepe de chine?

Crepe de Chine (CDC), French for Crepe from China, is a processed fabric with a texturized surface. The matte finish reflects individual pinpoints of light, and also gives it wonderful chromatic depth and striking eye-appeal. Because of the super lightweight, great durability and excellent wrinkle resistance, Crepe de Chine silk become perfect material for elegant slacks, skirts, dresses, suits, and evening wear.

2. What is Charmeuse silk?

Charmeuse silk (Satin silk) is a satin weave silk with a beautiful sheen, glossy finish on the front and a dull finish on the back. Its lightweight and decent natural elasticity make it excellent for gently shaped tops, skirts, slacks, dresses, evening wear, and lingerie, but the lustrous and reflective characteristic with a beautiful drape also become many top designers' one of the favorite fabrics for gowns of celebrities in the carpet.

3.Which is Better and How to Choose?

Well, frankly speaking, they are equally nice because they are both silks in regard to the lightness, softness and comfortable feeling. Nevertheless, they do have a subtle difference when it comes to personal preference.

If you prefer your clothes to be glossy and shinning, and money is not a problem for you, then Charmeuse is a better option. If you would like to try some daily wear that is more wrinkle-resistant and matte, then we suggest you go to crepe de chine.
